The passing of Dr. Janet Mackinnon

It was with great sadness that the Southlake family learned about the passing of Dr. Janet MacKinnon, hematologist, on Friday, September 3, 2010.

A memorial service has been planned to celebrate Dr. MacKinnon’s life, and to acknowledge and pay tribute to the tremendous contributions that Dr. MacKinnon made to Southlake.

Summer has been hot so keep well hydrated.  As a reminder, the clinic will be closed for the Labour Day Holiday on Monday September 6th, 2010.  We will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday September 7th.

H1N1 and flu shots

SUMMARY: The H1N1 Flu immunizations are now available at our clinic to high priority groups
High Priority Groups

- People under age 65 with chronic health conditions
(such as diabetes, asthma, cancer or a condition that aff ects the heart, liver, lung, or immune system)
- Pregnant women
- Healthy children aged six months to less than five years
- People living in remote and isolated settings or communities
- Health care workers
- Household contacts and care providers of infants under six months or persons who may not respond to vaccines

In summary

1) Over age 65 - you may attend our clinic for the regular flu shot

2) If you are interested in the H1N1 shot AND you qualify in the high risk groups listed above, please book an appointment with our office for the H1N1 or seasonal flu immunization.

Parental Leave for Dr. Leung

October 7th, 2009

Dr. Leung will be on parental leave for a period of 8 weeks starting October 5th, 2009. In his absence, Dr. Steve Chin will be covering. Dr. Leung will return to normal duties on November 30, 2009.

We apologize for the inconvenience but some of you will have already met Dr. Chin (who has covered for the practice in the past). Dr. Chin completed his residency in family practice at the University of Toronto and attended Queen’s University for his MD.

Birth Announcement

April 20th, 2009

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Alice Wong has given birth to a healthy baby boy.

The baby was 6 lb 15 oz.

We thank all our patients for their best wishes and understanding.
